3rd Annual River District Regatta

A one day Regatta is being organized by the Fort Myers Sailing Club as a Fund Raiser for the Edison Sailing Center. Proceeds from this fundraiser will support scholarships for summer programs of the Edison Sailing Center. The ESC, established in 1984 is a member of U.S. Sailing and is committed to teaching basic sailing skills to young people. Their mailing address is 15880 Summerlin Rd, #300 -175, Ft. Myers, FL 33908, and Tele: 239-454-5114. The Center is located on the Caloosahatchee River near downtown Ft. Myers and also offers intermediate and advanced level courses, with an emphasis on racing. The senior students are eligible to participate in the Level 1 USSA instructor training to continue their education. The ESC is a community based, non-profit 501(c) (3) organization which uses sail training to reach out to Southwest Florida youth to develop personal skills, sportsmanship, independent thinking and self-confidence while on the water. FMSC is fortunate to have use of the ESC’s South Training Center, located at 2000 West First Street, Fort Myers as host and Headquarters for this event. This facility is located between Joe’s Crab Shack and Centennial Park just west of downtown Fort Myers on the south side of the Caloosahatchee River. By water it is adjacent to Mile Marker “50” on the Okeechobee Waterway. There will be free dock space for participating sailboats.
This is an Open Invitational Regatta; all interested sailors are invited to participate. Boat owners who are not affiliated with any particular sailing club are welcome to register and race.
The race course will be on the Caloosahatchee River between the Caloosahatchee Bridge and the Midpoint Bridge. Please note that boats which draw more than five feet will have difficulty navigating the race course. Fixed bridge vertical clearance is 55 feet. There will be PHRF fleets in spinnaker and non-spinnaker divisions. Three races are planned, weather permitting. One race will constitute a Regatta. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each fleet.
Early registration fee before April 21st. is $50.00, thereafter $70.00
Regatta Schedule; Registration and check-in is from 6:30 until &7:30pm on Thursday, April 22, 2010, with the Skippers meeting at 7:30pm. Refreshments will be provided. From 7:00am to 9:00am on Saturday, April 24th. a continental breakfast will be served. The first race is to start at 10:00am with second and third races to follow. A dinner and refreshments will be served after the days racing with the awards presentation and announcement of Raffle winners to follow.
If the weather does not permit racing on Saturday, Sunday morning, April 25th. is the back-up time for sailing the Regatta. Races will follow the same Saturday Regatta Schedule.
Fund Raising; A major fundraiser will be a 50/50 Cash Raffle. This Raffle is open to any person interested in helping support the educational work of the ESC. The winner need not be present to win the cash award. The ticket cost is $1.00 per ticket or 6 tickets for $5.00. Contact: Joanne Russ at
